BURNHAM ARLIDGE

Meet the Photographer

Burnham Aldridge another Nova Fine Art discover, will soon grace our walls in preparation for reopening on April 12th..

Burnham says; ‘Photographs for me are not about capturing scenes, but instead evoking feelings and memories. It all started when I was in Asia several years ago. The hustle and bustle of the streets was mesmerizing, as were the vibrant colours, but I couldn't seem to capture the energy and liveliness of the locations. And so, with much experimentation, I was inspired to create my 'Memoryscape' series.’

Check out the collection online now.

Burnham Arlidge

I’m a Bristol-based photographer that specialises in impressionistic fine art portraits. Whilst photography is incredibly good at capturing singular moments in time, what fascinates me is how we remember a place or person. When I look back at something I’m often flooded with images, but only one or two things really stand out. I try to recreate this feeling with my photography by manipulating space and time around one focal point. This, I believe, creates a photo that reveals itself like a story in a half remembered dream or forgotten memory

Commissions

Just like you would commission a portrait painting, you can hire me to create a modern-style portrait for you using the medium of digital photography.

These portraits are highly stylised and personal. Unlike wedding photos, pet portraits, or commercial photography, my portraits are designed as singular pieces of artwork to be displayed as wall art.

I like to work closely with each individual to try and best understand what makes them tick. I like to convey a sense of the person in each portrait through location, position and technique. These portraits are what I would describe as ‘portraits within their landscape’. Much like old oil paintings used props to show the occupation or hobby of the individual being painted, my portraits demonstrate this through multiple images layered together.

For each portrait I’ll take 200-300 photos and then combine the best 40-50 in Photoshop to create a layered portrait over time.
